President Goodluck Jonathan has said that power supply in the country can only stabilise when we start generating we 40,000 megawatts of electricity.
Jonathan spoke in Uyo on Friday, while responding to questions during a town hall meeting with the people of Akwa Ibom.
He said that the target of 10,000 megawatts would not be enough ``because as power situation improves, more people are also acquiring electrical appliances''.
``We are taking the issue seriously, we meet every week to review the situation and by God's Grace, we will continue to progress until we get stable power for domestic and industrial use,'' he said.
On the plans to establish a refinery in Eket, Akwa Ibom, Jonathan said that the Federal Government would not want to get directly involved in the building of new refineries.
``The focus of government is not to get directly involved in the building of refinery again,” the president said.
He added that government intended to encourage public private partnership in the building of refineries in the country.
The president said that what was actually affecting the take-off of private refineries was the issue of correct pricing of petroleum products.
On return of schools to missionary owners, Jonathan advised religious authorities to establish new schools and manage them.
He explained that handing over some schools back to missionaries now could create problems because of staff remuneration and differences in faith. |
