Jos Internally Displaced Persons Get Lifeline

The Federal Government plans to establish a Direct Labour Agency to provide infrastructural facilities at the camp of internally displaced persons (IDP) to compliment the effort of the state governments, the Minister of Special Duties, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade has assured.

Giving the assurance when he visited the camp of the internally displaced persons at Lere, Tafawa Balewa Local Government of Bauchi State, with a view to assessing the condition of the displaced persons affected by the recent crisis in Jos Plateau State, the minister said the Direct Labour Agency would be responsible for resolving the welfare problems of the displaced persons.

He stated that the provision of potable water, electricity and residential facilities at the camp will go a long way in alleviating the plight of the displaced persons who have been uprooted from their natural abode as a result of the crisis.

The minister also said the ministry will collaborate with the Government of Plateau and Bauchi States to ensure that affected civil servants are fully rehabilitated by providing alternative jobs for them in their new abode.

He commended the effort of the Village Head of Lere, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Bawa for providing farmlands and residential houses for the displaced persons, adding that this spirit of magnanimity is a good example for communities in other areas with similar challenges to emulate.

In the same vain, the minister thanked the Bauchi State Government for working assiduously with the National Commission for Refugees to ensure that the condition of the displaced persons improves, appealing that public spirited persons and organizations should assist in providing succour to our brothers and sisters at the camp.

While receiving the minister at his palace, the Village Head of Lere, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Bawa who spoke through an interpreter told the minister that the displaced persons have been integrated into the whole community and are living peacefully with the people.

He appealed for more support from the government, to provide building materials and fertilizers for the displaced persons particularly this farming season.

Bauchi State Government HAS ALREADY established a committee for internally displaced persons to compliment the effort of the village head, he said adding that the committee designed and allocated 124 residential plots to the affected households and also provided them with some building materials.

The minister was accompanied by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Special Duties and the Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Hajia Hadiza Kangiwa.

Govt. Approves Accreditation Instrument

The Executive Secretary National Universities Commission (NUC) Professor Julius Okojie said the Board has approved the pilot study and projects that will enable universities to address the issues of accreditation.
Prof made this open at his office during the interaction section with the journalist recently in Abuja adding that this year they are planning the issue of accreditation process seriously in Nigeria.

Okojie explained, saying that “what we are talking about is that we need a situation where we are justify with use of our funds and be able to talk about quality of leadership”, integrity and accountability. And of course let us continue to pursue the issue of quality assurance institution.

Prof. Okojie stressed that they have continued to receive education from private institutions from develop private universities.
“I have interacted with about 4 proposed private universities, we are no longer giving them form, but rather we interact with them first when.

What we are discussing recently is the issue of illegal universities, which is now called illegal degree awarding universities, operating in Nigeria” he added.
