Man Begs Court To Stop Wife From Leaving
A man whose wife is seeking divorce, recently, prayed a grade A Customary Court in Mushin, Lagos for more than 30 minutes to save his marriage.
Mr Fatai Lawal (35) pleaded with the court to reconcile him with his wife, Falilat, saying that he wanted them to train their three children together.
“I still want my wife in my life; I appreciate her care to me and our three children aged eight, five and three years,” Fatai, a trader, submitted.
He told the court that efforts by the two families to resolve his differences with Falilat were fruitless because she insisted on divorce.
The respondent said that he relied on the court to reunite him with his enstranged wife.
Falilat (33) had urged the court to dissolve the marriage, claiming that Fatai constantly beat her.
The petitioner said she had already packed out of her matrimonial home over the battery and was fed up with the relationship.
“I packed out of my matrimonial home since Jan. 1, 2010 as a result of the constant beating; in fact, my husband beats me like a common criminal,” Falilat said.
The President of the Court, Dr Abayomi Ipaye, adjourned the case till July 27 for possible reconciliation.
In another development, four persons who allegedly stole building materials from their employer, recently, appeared before a Surulere Magistrate's Court in Lagos on a three-count charge of theft.
The accused: Chigozie Onyejiuwa (25), Wasiu Agboola (29), Uche Uzor (21), and Ibrabim Babagana (30) were charged before Magistrate A. Tobi, but they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Idowu Onime, submitted that they stole copper pipes, pumping machines, iron rods and electrical wall fittings belonging to W.A.O. Engineering Company which employed them.
Onime said that the building materials were worth N153,000.
He said that the alleged incident occurred on June 6 on the Grace Court Estate, Makoko, Yaba.
The prosecutor said that the alleged crime were punishable under Sections 516, 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.
The court granted the accused bail and in the sum of N60, 000 and a surety each.
The case has been adjourned till Sept. 9 for further hearing.

The Kwara Government recently presented a car and an apartment to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) regional office in Ilorin.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Saka Issau, said this while receiving the NYSC National Governing Board members who visited his office.
He said the state government's gesture was in recognition of the role being played by the NYSC in nation building, especially in preparing youths for future challenges.
Issau said the state would continue to support the NYSC by providing it with good facilities at its Yikpata camp in Edu Local Government Area.
He commended the NYSC for establishing the regional office in the state, assuring that government would continue to support the office.
Responding, the team leader, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, thanked the government for its gesture, pointing out that the team was in the state to assess facilities available at the NYSC orientation camp. |
