Hon. BankoleThe Kwara State Government has summoned two traditional rulers for questioning over frequent violent clashes between the people of Share and Tsaragi communities.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Joel Ogundeji, told newsmen in Ilorin that the two men were Olupako of Share, Oba Abubakar Dosumu, and the Estuof Tsaragi, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi.
He said the Chairwoman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Mrs Nimota Alabi, and her Edu Local Government counterpart, Alhaji Idris Liman, were also summoned.
Ogundeji noted with regret that recent clashes in the area had resulted in the death of one person and massive destruction of property.
He said all the people invited were expected to appear at the Governor's Office in Ilorin recently, adding that the two traditional rulers were asked to come along with ten representatives each.
Ogundeji, who visited the feuding towns recently, blamed the two traditional rulers for their inability to call their subjects to order.
He added that government was deeply touched by the recourse to violence over minor disagreements.
The deputy governor appealed to youths from the two towns to embrace peace and avoid taking the law into their hands.
Ogundeji commended the efforts of the state police command in restoring law and order in the area, and directed the Commissioner of Police to deploy more men to the two communities to maintain peace.
He pledged that government would do everything possible to resolve the age-long land dispute between the two communities.
Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the state Police command, Alhaji Tunde Mohammed, said 20 suspects had been arrested in connection with the crisis.
He said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
