Educationist Calls For Pragmatic Policy On Education

An educationist, Mrs Ijeoma Anyanwu, recently in Lagos said the current decay in education needed a pragmatic policy.
Anyanwu, who is also Director, Magic Moments, an NGO, said it was worrisome to see a sector that ought to be given the greatest priority sink to an abysmal level.
She said for any society to attain any form of growth and development, it must be come out with policies that would promote and encourage practicability.
Anyanwu stated this during the first National Education Summit, organised by the outfit.
She said that there was the need for seasoned professionals to be drafted into policy- making as they would assist in suggesting the best way forward.
`It is no longer a hidden fact that our education system is at its lowest ebb, I am of the same education system and I deem it fit to give back to the society by organising the summit, as part of our social responsibility.” she stated.
She added that the major aim of the summit was to bring stakeholders in the sector to assist government in its bid to reposition the sector.
According to her, ``it is going to be an annual event and we look forward to having more participants and support from other corporate bodies.
Mr Henry Agberire, a training consultant and writer, said the present education system was largely responsible for the stunted growth of the creative vision of the Nigerian graduate.
He also frowned at teachers who encourage laziness among students by collecting money from them for better scores during examinations.
