FEC Adopts Policy On Trafficked Persons

The Federal Government recently adopted a draft policy to ensure the protection and assistance of trafficked persons.
Briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council(FEC) meeting in Abuja , the Minister of Information and Communication, Mr John Odey, said the policy was approved as a national working document for stakeholders.
``The national policy is to ensure synergy of action and resources for the protection of rescued trafficked persons in Nigeria.
``Following deliberations and noting the benefits of this policy as it relates to fair play and justice, council approved the Draft National Policy on Protection and Assistance to Trafficked Persons.
The council also approved the renaming of the Civil Service College, which is due for commissioning at the end of the year, to the Public Service Institute of Nigeria.
The government also adopted a new motto and logo for the institute, ``Leading, Learning and Innovating''.
Odey said the decision to rename the institute followed the recommendation made to the council by a meeting of federal permanent secretaries.
Other decisions taken by council include the approval of contracts for the provision of ICT-enabled learning through the schools access programme in the sum of N3.6 billion.
The minister said the project involved the deployment of 100 classmate personal computers for students and two laptops for teachers for teaching purposes in 365 schools throughout the country.
The council also approved the contract for the procurement of earth moving machines for the Chad Basin Development Authority in the sum of N170.2 million for irrigation purposes in the southern Chad basin.
It also approved a contract for the direct procurement of pothole patchers for Federal Roads Maintenance Agency in the sum of N137 million.
The pothole patchers, the minister said, ``offers the most effective way of responding to pothole problems on federal roads.
FEC also approved contract for the supply and installation
of Stirilin-i-liquid Nitrogen plant and spare parts for National Veterinary Research Institute, VOM, near Jos, at the cost of N75.7 million.
