The Executive secretary, National University Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie recently met with the proprietor of the proposed Zuma Rock University, Professor Makary Stasiak.
In his welcome address, professor Okojie expressed delight at Professor Makary's visit as it was in line with the Government policy of encouraging the participation of the private sector in the provision of University Education in Nigeria.
He informed Professor Makary that out of an estimated one million candidates who sat for University matrianletion Examination (UME) annually, only about 200,000 candidates were able to secure admission into the limited spaces on the Nigerian University system.
He added that the way forward was to expend access through the participation of private providers.
The secretary, NUC standing committee on private Universities (SCOPU), Mrs. C. N. Goddy Nnadi explained that SCOPU was in receipt of the revised physical master plan, academic brief and Draft university law of the proposed university sequel to the first site verification visit.
She added that the proprietor's application had attained the 9th step of the 14 stages for the establishment of private universities in Nigeria.
