Cleen Foundation To Introduce Crime Map Technology
Determined to reduce the incidence of crime in the country, the CLEEN FOUNDATION, has concluded plans to introduce the crime mapping technology in three most outstanding stations in 2009 Award ceremony.
This is coming on the heels that crime mapping is based on the principle that crime is not evenly distributed across any given community.
The Executive Director, CLEEN FOUNDATION, Innocent Chukwuma made this known at the Award Ceremony; police station visitors week,2009.
He stated that due to a variety of factors, some areas experience more crimes than others.
His words: “By identifying the neighbourhoods most affected through mapping of crime hotspots, scarce policing resources can be better utilized”
The Executive Director further revealed that by partnering Altus Global Alliance, a window has been opened to encourage members of the community to visit local police stations, interact with officials and rate them accordingly.
He remarked that 1200 police stations participated in the 2009 visits adding that expected increase will be anticipated when ratings are made in October; 2010.
He used the ceremony to highlight basic tenets of the visits which exalts team work rather than individual gallantry, stressing quantitative scores by independent analysts.
On the award by Wuse police station, he expressed delight that an unscheduled visit has helped to bring out the best of the station.
“A phone call from the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for the commissioning of a renovated station, turned things around for them making them one of the best in 2009” he added.
He maintained that the visits and awards, therefore, have encouraged healthy competition among police stations in Nigeria including other countries who are also trying to improve physical conditions of stations and services to host communities.
