The Real Estate Developers' Association of Nigeria (REDAN) has set itself the target of developing 400,000 housing units which should not cost more than $10,000 (N1.5m each.
The housing units are to be built with Hydro form technology which has gained ground and helped to accelerate housing in South Africa.
Chief Olabode Afolayan the National President and chairman of the council of REDAN who stated this when the inauguration of REDAN PPP committee on 400,000 units Nationwide Housing scheme held recently at the Federal Ministry of works, Housing and urban Development conference room.
Chief Afolayan observed that the committee member can collectively work together to address the problem of Housing in Nigeria, and that with the way the honourable minister of state for housing is handling the issue of housing, 400,000 Housing scheme will be a child's play within the next one year.
The president noted that REDAN had in the last seven years, following its establishment with the support of the Federal Government, under his leadership been organized to effectively deliver houses across the country.
According to him, his association will not build houses that will not be affordable to the public stressing that the housing sector will be used to develop other sectors e.g the manufacturing sector.
He added that each sector will operate at an optimal level thereby creating employment.
The minister of state for works, Housing and urban Development, chief Mrs. Grace Ekpwihre explained that the formation of REDAN was encouraged by her ministry because of the compelling need for housing in Nigeria, because government alone cannot solve the problem.
She maintained that the initiate by REDAN to reduce the cost of housing by using the hydraform technology, and advised the public to embrace it.
Mrs. Ekpiwhre declared that the use of the Hydra form machine should be encouraged and demonstrated in construction of schools and other public buildings so that people will be encouraged to use the products.
